Robots and AI at the root of revolution in horticulture sector
Technological advancements are driving big changes in the horticultural industry. From a cutting robot that sticks two different plants together to create a stronger plant, to artificial intelligence that controls cultivation remotely, to a digital assistant that works as ChatGPT for the grower. During GreenTech, this week (from June 11 to 13, 2024) in RAI Amsterdam, there will be a lot of focus on how Dutch innovations are ensuring that the horticultural sector is on the cusp of a revolution for a sustainable future.
The Netherlands is a global leader in greenhouse technology. Greenhouse builders around the world are deploying Dutch technologies for successful greenhouse farming. Mariska Dreschler, director of horticulture at GreenTech Global, says: “In areas with little rainfall, such as North Africa and the Middle East, Dutch growers and inventions are providing the population with locally and sustainably produced fruits and vegetables. The contribution the Netherlands makes to global food security and safety is enormous. At GreenTech many of these Dutch innovations can be seen and all developments in the horticultural sector come together."
