RAI Amsterdam invests in improvements across the complex
More than 150 people worked for six weeks this summer on improvements in and around RAI Amsterdam. These included upgrades to Entrance C, the roof, outdoor areas and various technical systems.
The maintenance and improvements are part of the RAI’s long-term plan to modernise its buildings and facilities step by step and prepare the complex for the future.
Entrance C renewed for visitors, exhibitors and organisers
A large part of the work took place at Entrance C. Both the inside and outside underwent a major transformation. The steel structure and roof panels of the canopy, as well as the high ceiling in the entrance area, were cleaned and repainted. This keeps the RAI’s industrial character clearly visible while giving the entrance a calmer and brighter appearance. The facilities on the ground floor have also been renewed. A new Service Desk forms a recognisable point in the entrance. The cloakroom has been relocated to improve visitor flow. The toilet facilities have also been fully renovated and the lighting has been updated. Behind the ceilings, new technical systems have been installed and prepared, including air ducts, sprinklers, cable routes and lighting. On the roof, a new steel structure has been installed in preparation for new air handling equipment in the next phase. These improvements also prepare Entrance C for further technical upgrades in 2027.
Renewed roof helps reduce energy use
Work also took place on the roof above Hall 10, the Forum and E-Rooms. The roof has been renewed in phases since March. The summer period allowed the work to continue for longer periods without interruption. The existing roof layers have been replaced and new insulation has been added. This helps improve the building’s energy efficiency.
Outdoor areas better prepared for everyday use
A great deal changed outside too. Above the P2 parking garage, damaged concrete was repaired and a new waterproof membrane was added. At the P7 U-turn, paving stones were replaced with asphalt. New conduits for electricity and data were also installed. This makes it easier to add connections where they are needed in the future. Renewed drainage, paving and waterproofing make the outdoor areas better prepared for the many traffic movements around the RAI.
Improvements behind the scenes
Not all changes are immediately visible. This summer, work also included improvements to fire safety, the heating system in the production kitchen and new lighting in Hall 8. Organisers, exhibitors and visitors will notice the results during their time at the RAI: a more welcoming entrance area, improved facilities and a complex that operates more efficiently.
