Amsterdam Rises 10 Places in Global Sustainability Ranking for Events
Amsterdam has climbed ten places in the 2026 Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS-Index), reaching 30th position. This places the city among the strongest climbers worldwide in the field of sustainable congress and events policies.
The rise highlights the joint efforts of Amsterdam and its partners to organise events that create lasting economic, social and environmental impact. For organisers, the ranking confirms that Amsterdam is a destination where sustainability is becoming an increasingly integral part of day-to-day practice.
Amsterdam Strengthens the Sustainable Events Sector
One of the areas in which Amsterdam performs particularly well is the impact and legacy of events. The city supports organisers with knowledge, practical tools and programmes that help events deliver a lasting positive contribution to both visitors and the city itself, such as the free liver screenings offered at RAI Amsterdam during the EASL Liver Congress. Amsterdam is also making progress in visitor management and climate action. By improving the distribution of visitor flows and making sustainable choices more accessible, the city is working towards a future-proof visitor and events industry.
