Amsterdam on the move during marathon weekend
Last weekend, Amsterdam was all about the TCS Amsterdam Marathon. A total of 32,000 runners took part in the marathon, while 15,000 participants joined the half marathon. With participants from 161 countries, the event brought athletes from around the world together in Amsterdam.
Marathon Weekend Begins at RAI Amsterdam
For participants, marathon weekend started at RAI Amsterdam. During the Marathon Expo, thousands of runners, supporters and sports enthusiasts gathered to prepare for their race, collect their race numbers and discover the latest developments in running, health, nutrition and sportswear.
The Expo was officially opened ahead of the event by Bart van der Heijden, Director Events at RAI Amsterdam, together with the management team of Le Champion.
According to René Wit, Race Director of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon, the Expo plays a central role in the event experience: "The Marathon Expo is where the marathon begins." During the press conference, Matthijs Mennes, Managing Director of Le Champion, also highlighted the role of RAI Amsterdam during marathon weekend: "RAI Amsterdam is the stage for the Amsterdam Marathon."
Colleagues at the Starting Line
The event was not only embraced by participants and visitors. Employees of RAI Amsterdam also took part. In total, forty colleagues participated in various distances throughout marathon weekend.
RAI Amsterdam therefore looks back on a weekend in which sport, connection and international engagement came together, both on the course and in the Europahal at RAI Amsterdam.
International Appeal
The TCS Amsterdam Marathon demonstrates how sport, city and visitors come together. The thousands of participants and visitors from the Netherlands and abroad create a vibrant atmosphere throughout the city and contribute to Amsterdam's position as an international destination for both sporting and business events.
With participants from 161 countries, the event also highlights Amsterdam's international character. At the same time, it offers visitors the opportunity to explore the city and, for many, extends their stay beyond the marathon weekend.
