80,000 meal packages on World Food Day
RAI Amsterdam supported a major meal packing event on this year’s World Food Day. Organised by Kraft Heinz in cooperation with Rise Against Hunger, the event brought together many hard-working volunteers who prepared as many food packages as possible for countries suffering from shortages. The aim was to prepare 80,000 packages in three hours.
Held every year on 16 October, World Food Day aims to attract attention to global hunger. More than 820 million people in the world today have too little to eat and the UN has set the goal of eliminating hunger by 2030.
Global Packathon 2019 for one million meal packages
The Global Packathon was one in a range of activities organised in more than 150 countries to address world hunger. This event was a kind of relay, starting in Sydney and ending in Chicago, with participating countries taking turns to package meals. It was the turn of the Netherlands at 14:00 local time, and 200 volunteers gathered in the RAI. The target was to make 80,000 packages before 17:00 – and that goal was achieved with flying colours!
The objective of Kraft Heinz to make one million meal packages within 24 hours was also reached, with 1,216,064 packages prepared for shipment.
