Maurits van der Sluis joins JMIC Board, strengthening RAI Amsterdam’s global industry role

Maurits van der Sluis, a member of the Executive Board of RAI Amsterdam, a Board Member of AIPC and UFI, and former President of EMECA, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC). His appointment underlines RAI Amsterdam’s growing influence in shaping the future of the global business events industry.

The announcement was made during IMEX Frankfurt, where the organisation presented a series of major developments, including new leadership appointments, a renewed Global Manifesto, and an accelerated climate action agenda. Van der Sluis joins the Board alongside Dr. Senthil Gopinath, CEO of ICCA. Together, they will support existing Board members Chris Skeith (UFI), Flavie de Beueil (CityDNA), and Martin Boyle (IAPCO). The renewed Board reflects JMIC’s commitment to strengthening representation across the full spectrum of the international business events ecosystem.

Strengthening RAI Amsterdam’s global position
With this appointment, RAI Amsterdam gains a direct role in advancing the global agenda for the meetings, conventions, and exhibitions industry. JMIC serves as the unified voice of the sector, advocating for its economic and societal value worldwide. Van der Sluis commented: “It is an honour to join the JMIC Board at a time when our industry is evolving rapidly. Business events play a vital role in driving innovation, collaboration and sustainable progress. I look forward to working with fellow Board members to strengthen our global voice and ensure our industry continues to deliver meaningful impact for communities and economies worldwide.”

Van der Sluis’ appointment reinforces both JMIC’s and RAI Amsterdam’s ambitions to drive a more aligned, sustainable and impactful global business events industry.
