Young Professional Experience Day during Horecava
On Thursday, January 14th, 2016 during the Horecava, the first Young Professional Experience Day (YEPD) will be held. Horecava is organizing this event, co-initiated by FNV Catering, to encourage young people to jump-start their careers in the hospitality industry. The day includes an interactive conference followed by an inspiring visit to the fair. Students and businesses will have the opportunity to come into contact with each other. Currently, 1000 third and fourth year students from the hospitality-related secondary and higher vocational education have registered. The YEPD will take place on the last day of Horecava 2016 at RAI Amsterdam.
The young professionals are on the verge of making choices about their careers. Offering the students a glimpse into the vibrant and energetic industry, is crucial. Luuk Scholte, Exhibition Manager Horecava "The influx of young people from vocational courses towards the catering sector has stalled. The industry wants to tackle that problem and through this initiative we aim to act as a stepping stone for young professionals into the industry."
FNV Horeca developed an online tool based on Personal Mapping. By completing a questionnaire, participants find out what specific characteristics set them apart from the crowd. A movie then explains the individual’s course of action. Upon arrival, each participant receives a personalised map based on the online character profile.
During the conference, speakers will make use of the Pecha Kucha method, amongst others. Pecha Kucha is an alternative presentation technique, where the presentation is structured in 20 slides that change every 20 seconds, resulting six minutes and 40 seconds per speaker. The presentations are organised around three key topics: kitchen, restaurant and the experience of a Young Professional.
The Young Professional Experience sessions will take place between 11:00 am and 12:30 pm on the 14th. Marco Bouma, FNV sector director Hospitality will open the floor. Wouter Holtkamp, trainer at Q-staff, will shake things up with an interactive session followed by various speakers from the industry, such as Marco Dave Horst of Food Reporter; general manager of HMSHost Schiphol Patrick Brans, and Sebastiaan Rompa, founder of Personal Mapping. A live Chef's battle will be held on stage, cooking the Koppert Cress Black Box. Martin Wessels, chief editor of ENTRANCE and owner of Wessels Training acts as the YEPD moderator. After the Food Experience lunch, the Young Professionals will experience the show floor.
The YEPD is supported and organised by several partners: TIO, Wessels Trainings, Albron, Mise en Place, HMSHost International, FNV Catering, Koppert Cress Bidvest DeliXL and Q-staff. More information can be found on the YEPD websitewww.yped.nl.
