Visitors in a buying mood at HISWA 2016

The new sailing season got off to a great start with the HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show in RAI Amsterdam this week. Seven different areas at the event showcased the latest watersport news, with almost 800,000 encounters between visitors and exhibiting companies. Fifty-seven per cent of all visitors said they had plans to purchase in 2016, illustrating how the willingness to buy has increased over the past year. This was confirmed by the exhibitors who stated that there were a high number of quality visits, as well as many purchases, offer requests and sea trial appointments. Next year’s HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show will run from 8 to 12 March 2017 in RAI Amsterdam.

Growing enthusiasm
The HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show welcomed 40,524 visitors and approximately 300 exhibiting companies this year. The first survey results among visitors have shown a significant rise in enthusiasm among visitors, with 57% stating their intention to buy during 2016. There were also many more requests for quotes and sea trials than at last year’s exhibition.

According to the survey, people visited the show to get information (64%) and see new products and services (62%). “There was a buoyant and positive atmosphere among visitors and exhibitors alike,” says exhibition manager Joost Ringeling. “Visitors were leaving with full bags and many yards, brokers and importers felt they had done good business.”

“More boats sold”
Exhibitors were pleased with the upbeat atmosphere at the show, with visitors being of a very high quality. “It was an excellent exhibition,” commented Marieke Gijzel from Aquavitesse BV. “We met many very interested visitors and I was pleased to see how much knowledge they had gained in advance about our boats. We certainly sold more than last year.”

“We had a great exhibition and sold nine boats,” agreed Remko Germeraad of Alumax Boats BV. “And we expect more to come as a result of the exhibition.” Lex Sluyter of Navilex added: “Customers are once again prepared to invest in their pleasure and open their cheque books.” And Anne-Marie van der Walle of Vetus BV concluded by saying that “everything about the exhibition exceeded our expectations – the whole week, including the evenings.”

RAI harbour
The RAI harbour made its debut at this year’s HISWA, where visitors could try out various activities for themselves for the first time. Options included sailing electric boats and taking manoeuvring clinics. There was also the chance to test a Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) board while and younger visitors had various dinghies to put thought their paces. Those feeling less of a need to go on the water watched the wakeboard demonstrations from a terrace.

Award winners 
The prestigious Motorboat, Sailboat and Product of the Year awards were presented on the opening day of the show. The Aluqa Abalone 28 by Aluqa Exclusive Boats won the Motorboat of the Year. The choice for Sailboat of the Year fell on the Hanse 315 by West Yachting, while VolansCOASTAL from Volans Rowing & Sailing was named Product of the Year 2016.
