Opening of HISWA 2016 focused on the future of watersport
The HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show in RAI Amsterdam is traditionally opened by individuals who play an important role in the world of watersport. This year the official ceremony is in the hands of representatives from government and industry who are aiming to boost the sector. The HISWA takes place at the start of the watersport season, which is officially launched during the exhibition opening. The event also focuses on the future of watersport and features the presentation of the Motorboat, Sailboat and Product of the Year awards for 2016 by an expert jury. The HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show takes place from 16 to 20 March in RAI Amsterdam.
‘Welcome on the Water’ campaign
The need for the watersport sector to address the current social and demographic developments was the basis for developing the ‘Welcome on the Water’ promotional campaign. With this campaign the sector hopes to attract new watersport enthusiasts in the years ahead. Research shows that there are opportunities for growth in both the traditional and new types of watersport. Geert Dijks, director of the HISWA Association (the Dutch association for watersports) will share information about the campaign and the cooperation between 900 HISWA watersport companies to realise growth over the coming years. The HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show is already a partner in the campaign, and other companies and organisations are welcome to join.
Ringing the ship’s bell
The HISWA is traditionally opened with the ringing of the ship’s bell. This official opening act is performed by prominent administrators who play a leading role in the watersport and recreational sector. Cees Loggen, water recreation representative for the Province of North Holland, Patrick Poelmann, dike warden of the district water control board Stichtse Rijnlanden, Luzette Wagenaar-Kroon, mayor of the Municipality of Waterland, and Udo Kock, alderman Finance and Water of the Municipality of Amsterdam, will share their plans for enhancing the watersport industry. They were invited to open the event in recognition of the fact that watersport in the Netherlands relies on sound water, waterway infrastructure and economic policies.
The opening will also see the presentation of the prestigious HISWA Sailboat, Motorboat and Product of the Year awards. The four nominated sailboats are the Hanse 315, Dragonfly 25, Maxi 1200 and Italia 9.98. Nominees for the Motorboat of the Year are the Boarncruiser 1200 Elegance, Aluqa Abalone 28, Super Lauwersmeer Evolve OC, Spoker Saloon and Lillebror 78. Six products were nominated for the Product of the Year award: the VolansCOASTAL, Spinlock Lume-On, Torqeedo Cruise 2.0 FP and 4.0 FP, Quantum™ Wireless CHIRP radar, IRig and Load Bearing Collar. More information about the nominees is available via www.hiswarai.nl/nominaties.
