Nine Months Fair: the place for real and virtual babies

Rocking the cradle of innovation at the 31st Nine Months Fair
The 31st Nine Months Fair (in Dutch, Negenmaandenbeurs) for new and expectant mothers takes place from 24 to 28 February in RAI Amsterdam and is focused on innovation. The event includes a specially developed virtual reality lounge where visitors can take a peak inside a pregnant belly, offers visitors the opportunity to become inventors, and features a wide variety of new products. The Baby Innovation Awards will also be presented again this year, with the addition of the new Green Award for the most sustainable product. And, as usual, the exhibition offers visitors an extensive activity programme.

Invent and experience
Visitors with an idea for a product and service or those looking for a solution to a problem will benefit from the Nine Months Fair inventors concept. At the end of the exhibition, two inventors at the Baby Innovation Square will select the ‘best baby idea’ and set to work in the hope of launching the new development during the 2017 of the Nine Months Fair.

Visitors looking for a little relaxation can spend time on the many comfortable terraces and in the brand-new virtual reality lounge. Here, special glasses enable people to experience how it feels to be an embryo in a pregnant belly.

In addition to the 200 companies and their extensive range of products, there will be a variety of performances on stage, so-called ‘mama master classes’ and workshops as well as a baby carry workout in which dads and moms who carry their babies (on their stomach) can participate in an active class.

In addition, Elsbeth Teeling (known for the Dutch Club of Relaxed Mothers) will be hosting a fun quiz, Kim-Lian van der Meij will be reading stories, and Dirk Scheele will be singing children’s songs. The mama master classes offer a wide range of topics this year, including a special papa class on Wednesday (what the Dutch call ‘daddy day’), a food class by De Kleine Keuken, and topics ranging from the development of babies to instructions on using a baby sling. There is a great deal to do and experience for pregnant women and young parents alike.

Innovations
An initiative by trade magazine Babywereld and consumer platform Babystuf in cooperation with the Nine Months Fair and Fabulous mama & family, the Baby Innovation Awards are also being presented this year. The expert jury has already selected the winners, but there is still an opportunity for the public to vote for the nominees for the public award. The prizes will be presented at the Baby innovation Square on 24 February, the first day of the event.

A new element this year is the Green Award. “The Green Award is an important addition; brands are increasingly making their products more sustainable, and this award is aimed at rewarding those efforts,” says organiser Carola Siksma-Ruiters.

In addition to the many innovations as part of the Baby Innovation Award, the exhibition will feature plenty of other new products, including the Hangloose Baby, a new baby playpen mat and hammock in one; the Stair Trainer from Mippaa®, which helps children from the age of one go up and down stairs; and the Wishbone by Smart Wishbone, the smallest intelligent thermometer for contact-free temperature measurements. In short, the 31st Nine Months Fair will see a wealth of new products making their debut.
