Multifunctional car park
After a Design and Build selection procedure Aan de Stegge Twello has reached an agreement with Amsterdam RAI on the realisation of an 8-storey multifunctional car park building on the A10 and the Zuidas in Amsterdam. The building is 30 meters high and will contain around 1,000 parking spaces. The multifunctional car park building will be built according to the current sustainability standards and is expected to be completed August 2016.
Parking capacity for international events
The demand for additional parking capacity at Amsterdam RAI is a result of the loss of parking spaces around the Zuidas in the past decade. To function as a convention center for large international multiple day events RAI wishes to expand the number of parking spaces to the original 4,000 parking spaces. The concentration of on-site parking ensures less disruption to the environment. Also, the municipality of Amsterdam needed a P&R function (park and ride) in this area.
Multifunctional car park building
The new car park building is multifunctional. General manager Hans Bakker of Amsterdam RAI explains: "The first floor of the building is extra high with its height of 7.20 meters and will have a high quality finishing, so this floor of 2,500 square meters is ideal as an additional exhibition space or conference room for our customers. The floor load on all levels is made suitable for realising offices in the future. Finally, the roof of the car park building offers several possibilities. At major events we can build an additional pavilion here. The car park building is flexible and adaptable to future developments. This way Amsterdam RAI contributes to an environment economy. "
Design car park building
In this process Amsterdam RAI was advised by Res & Smit from Amsterdam. They will also be involved in the work around project and contract management untill the completion of this project. Based on a Design and Build selection Amsterdam RAI chose Aan de Stegge Twello to realise their new car park building. The design was created by architect Mels Crouwel of Benthem Crouwel Architects, based on the high urban demands of the Zuidas and the ESPA standards. Construction will start September 2015 and the multifunctional car park building will be completed August 2016.
