More buyers and young people at HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show 2017

Sunny spring weather accompanied the lively kick-off of the watersports season at the HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show 2017 in RAI Amsterdam this week. Over its five-day run, the show highlighted all the latest news in the maritime world. An early survey of exhibitors showed that more boats were sold than last year. And the new Funsports Xperience also made a positive contribution to the event, attracting significantly more young visitors. The newly added hall with spectacular water activities was highly appreciated by the visitors. Next year’s HISWA show will take place from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 11 March 2018 in RAI Amsterdam.

Great atmosphere
The 62nd HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show hosted more than 250 exhibiting companies and over 35,000 visitors. “There was a great atmosphere on the show floor from day one,” says exhibition manager Joost Ringeling. “I’ve received positive signals from exhibitors about the state of the market, and the way that the event – which includes the new Funsports Xperience – is increasingly focused on a younger audience.”

Serious interest
According to the exhibiting companies, many of the visitors to this edition of the HISWA boat show showed serious interest in the products on offer. The first survey among visitors endorses this view: an eighth (13%) indicated an intention to make a purchase of more than ten thousand euros at the show.  Exhibitor Arjan van Rijn from AVR Watersport confirmed that the show had been very fruitful: “I'm very happy with the quality of the visitors. Within the first three days we had already sold ten boats.” Erik van Veen of Da Vinci Yachts concurred: “I regret not being present at the HISWA boat show over the last five years. We sold a boat very early on and overall met many high-potential clients.” Dave de Groot of Long Island Yachts was equally enthusiastic: “For us, the exhibition was an excellent opportunity to maintain our existing relationships and make new contacts. This show was the perfect start to the watersports season!”

Funsports Xperience
While fun sports in general have been part of the HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show for some years, the organisers pulled out all the stops this year. The theme occupied a newly added hall of no less than four thousand square metres, where visitors could take part in numerous activities: wind, wave & kite surfing, wakeboarding, SUP and skim boarding, as well as related sports such as skateboarding and BMX. Maurice Huisman of Mistral Red Dot Division was very positive about his company’s participation: “Fun is front and centre here. The aim of this event and our presence was to reach young people and make them enthusiastic about watersports. We can safely say we succeeded!”

Winners of HISWA Sailboat, Motorboat and Product of the Year 2017

The status of HISWA Product of the Year was awarded to the PSI Aircover, an ingenious furling jib sleeve by the eponymous company PSI Aircover.
