Amsterdam RAI is a company that operates fully independently and is privately financed. The refinancing operation can in fact be regarded as a special milestone for the company, since improved results and balance sheet ratios have enabled it refinance the borrowed capital completely on a commercial basis. Consequently, all the loans from the Municipality of Amsterdam (which holds 25% of the shares) have been completely repaid some 45 years after the building of the exhibition complex. This does not mean that the city of Amsterdam has become less important for the RAI. On the contrary, Amsterdam and the RAI continue to mean a great deal to each other. The international appeal and excellent accessibility of the city provide the ideal backdrop for the RAI and thus contribute to its success as an engine for the local economy. According to the latest information, one euro spent in the RAI generates four times the expenditure in the region.
