Current situation

100% renewable energy
All electricity used by Amsterdam RAI and its guests comes from renewable sources such as wind, water and solar power. This results in very low CO² emissions as there is no need for fossil fuel.

Winner of the Best Employer 2008 awardAmsterdam RAI is one of the silver category winners in the Best Employer 2008 award. The list was compiled by Effectory and the newspaper Volkskrant Banen on the basis of a survey conducted among 315 companies. Amsterdam RAI employees were asked to rate the corporate culture, work, managers, working conditions and scope for personal development. The Netherlands’ largest and best known exhibition and conference centre emerged as a winner with a score of 7.4 out of 10.

Sustainable procurement policy
In addition to price and quality, sustainability is an important factor in the RAI’s procurement policy. Fair employment conditions, environmental policies, ethics and certification programmes all weigh in the tender process. Suppliers are also encouraged to advise Amsterdam RAI on sustainable alternatives within their respective industries.

Geothermal sources for the conference centre and the new Elicium
Apart from various energy saving measures, Amsterdam RAI is able to re-use 80% of the energy needed for the Elicium and the RAI conference centre by storing surplus heat and cold 187 metres under ground in three geothermal sources. When needed, it is pumped up back into the heating respective cooling system.

New mobiliy concept
The RAI and its partners from public transport companies are piloting a combined entrance and public transport ticket. More public transport and less cars result in a win-win situation for the environment, the neighbourhood and visitors (improved accessibility).
