Working together for a better futureRAI Exhibitions International, a branch of Amsterdam RAI, organises leading worldwide trade exhibitions in fields such as transport, traffic, hygiene, water and yacht building. We also support an
AMREF Flying Doctors project in Tanzania, called Mtwara.
Our exhibitions share considerable common ground with this project, which makes us feel very much involved. The Aquatech exhibition, for instance, focuses on all kinds of water, including drinking water; and ISSA /INTERCLEAN, an exhibition for the professional cleaning industry, also includes hygiene in its remit.
In partnership with our exhibitors and visitors, RAI Exhibitions is dedicated to providing a better life for the inhabitants of the Mtwara district.
Consider this…
•Inhabitants of the Mtwara district live on less than $ 0.40 a day
•They spend between four and seven hours a day obtaining water
•There is so little water in Mtwara that only 10-15 litres is available per person, per day (25 litres is the accepted bare minimum). * The average use per person, per day in developed countries is 124 litres
Water quenches more than thirst
This situation has many negative effects on the health of the local population. And the time lost in obtaining water has many socio-economic consequences, including less time for school and work. Meanwhile, collecting the water is dangerous for women and girls who are often confronted with sexual violence.
Calculations of the economic consequences indicate that each investment in the access to safe water and sufficient sanitary facilities is repaid over 25 times in terms of providing more time for work and reducing illness and medical costs.
